Colelarious Vol. 7

Happy Thanksgiving Week!!

I want to apologize for not posting much last week. With everything going on, I ran out of time to bring one of Cole's lovely ideas to life. I do wish I had a turkey inspired one for this week, but alas, he has not graced us with such a phrase.

I do have a real mind bender for you though. I forget what he was doing when he said this, but we were staying at a friend's house and Cole peeked his head around the corner and said...

Colelarious Vol. 7  Tying is Seeing

Colelarious Vol. 7  Tying is Seeing

Wait....what?

You read that right, "Tying is Seeing." I have no idea what this means, but it seems really profound. Like one of those fortune cookies that leaves you scratching your head, but you're sure the statement will come in handy sooner or later.

BONUS COLELARIOUS! Good news. Since I missed last week's, be on the lookout for a second Colelarious being posted in the next few days.

As always, be sure to tell your friends about me, like my page on Facebook and follow me on Instagram. If you have any graphic design needs, be sure to check out my End of the Year Special Rates located under the Special Rates tab at the top of the page!

Just My Type Tuesday 11.8.16

I apologize for missing last week everyone! It was a little busy over the Halloween weekend. I hope everyone had a great holiday. We ended up with way more candy than we knew what to do with. Just kidding! We're gonna eat it.

Anyway, below you will find this week's Just My Type. I decided to go simple and classic with this one since the last two were way more stylized.

The reason I love Century Gothic is because you can use it for absolutely anything. It is one of my favorite sans serif typefaces and it comes on most computers, I think. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong on this. I like that the x-height is slightly higher than center and I really love the symmetry of the individual characters. If you finish the stroke on the "e", it makes a perfect circle, just like the "o."

As I was researching Century Gothic for this post, I learned that it is strongly influenced by Futura. I don't know about you, but I love it way more than Futura - definitely an upgrade.

You can learn more about its history here. See you next week for another Just My Type!

Don't be shy...share this with your friends and encourage them to follow me on Instagram and like my Facebook page.

Colelarious Vol. 6

Running a little late today...things are getting crazy around here.

I honestly cannot remember where this wonderful exclamation came from, so I won't bore you with trying to figure it out. All I know is that it is really fun to say.

Seriously, yell it out. Right now. Do it. I promise you won't regret it.

Until next week my friends...don't forget to spread the word! Share my Facebook page and invite your friends to follow me on Instagram. It is greatly appreciated.

Colelarious Vol. 5

Happy Halloween People! I hope you all had a great weekend and have some fun plans for this evening. I decided to do a somewhat creepy Colelarious for this spooky holiday, but I think it is still a little light-hearted...maybe.

Colelarious Vol. 5  Head Bugs

Colelarious Vol. 5  Head Bugs

Cole jumped on Tony's back and said this to him one day this past month - I'm not sure where it came from or why he said it, but it was hilariously creepy. When I showed Cole this illustration he laughed, but said that there were all kinds of bugs - bees, butterflies, stink bugs...the list went on. It's a wonder Tony ever gets anything done with all that buzzing in his ears.

I hope your all have a safe and happy Halloween! Check back next week for another Colelarious.

Just My Type Tuesday 10.25.16

Hey guys! I made it a little earlier this week for the second installment of Just My Type Tuesday.

This week, I am featuring one of my favorite script typefaces - Al Fresco. I was lucky enough to receive this as one of the Free Goods from Creative Market. If you haven't checked out Creative Market yet, please do so, it is awesome. Every Monday, they release 6 Free Goods and they are just that - FREE!

Back to the task at hand - why do I love Al Fresco? Let me count the ways. First of all, it is just nice to look at. Secondly, I was always really attracted to Zapfino, but there was just something about it that bothered me or made it hard to work with - this font has filled that space for me. I love the swooping serifs and the effortless ways it goes from character to character. Lastly, it is a really clean file - I don't find that I have to kern it in some of the ways I usually do with custom typefaces.

It is designed by Laura Worthington. She does some really nice stuff and you can check out the rest of her work on her Creative Market shop. If you want to buy Al Fresco for yourself, you can get the regular version here, or there is also a bold version available here.

If you haven't already, please be sure to go like my Facebook page and follow me on Instagram.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week!

Colelarious Vol. 4

Welcome to the end of October everyone! Can you believe it? This year has just flown by.

This week's Colelarious has become a regular exclamation in our household and without further ado...here it is.

Colelarious Vol. 4  Turn the Kernel

Colelarious Vol. 4  Turn the Kernel

Cole coined this phrase one lazy Sunday. We were watching football and Tony was "yelling" at the TV for the player to "Turn the corner!" Cole must have misheard him and started saying "Turn the kernel! Pop it!" I'm not going to lie, it is quite fun to say - go on, give it a try, you know you want to.

Anyway, see you next week for Colelarious volume 5! Don't forget to give me a like on Facebook or follow me on Instagram to keep up with all the latest. Also, be sure to check out Just my Type Tuesday - second installment of that coming up tomorrow.

Just My Type Tuesday 10.18.16

I know, I know, I'm just under the wire for posting this on a Tuesday. Give a girl some credit, would you?

Welcome to the first ever Just My Type Tuesday. Every week, I am going to feature a typeface that I love and what a more perfect one to start with than Beacon.

I found it on dafont.com and fell in love. I tried to use it several times for my 9 to 5 job and it always got shot down - I guess its rugged awesomeness is just too hard for some to handle. When I (finally) ventured out into the world on my own, I just knew I had to use it.

I love the uneven strokes and painterly feel of it. It has a personality that is hard for me to ignore.

Anyway, that's enough about my love affair with this typeface. If you love it to, you can download it for yourself FOR FREE here

Enjoy the (very little) time left in your Tuesday and join me next week for another Just My Type.

Colelarious Vol. 3

Happy Monday Everyone! We are well into October (can you believe it?) and onto the third installment of Colelarious.

The newest nugget of wisdom from my favorite redhead is entitled Golf Ball Cookie.

When we lived in Saint Augustine, Florida, Cole and I commuted up to Jacksonville. We drove past the World Golf Hall of Fame every day and one time when looking up at the sign, Cole graced me with these deep words:

Colelarious Vol. 3  Golf Ball Cookie

If anyone knows what the hell it means, could you fill me in please? The way he said it was very prophetic, so I feel as if I am missing something.

As always, be sure to like my Facebook page and follow me on Instagram for all the latest.

I do hope to see you all next week for Colelarious Vol. 4!

Colelarious Vol. 2

I think we started off strong last week. The rainbow toadie will forever be in your hearts I'm sure.

This week we go a different direction with one of the first phrases I wrote down. I immediately knew what the image would look like when Cole said it.

You'll have to forgive me, I do not remember the exact circumstances behind this, but I'm pretty sure Cole was running through the living room and yelled "...Crash Dishes!" He said some other stuff before it, but I couldn't exactly hear it, so I improvised.

See you next week for volume 3!

Colelarious Vol. 1

Cole waxed poetic. You waited. I agonized.

With our forces combined, the Rainbow Toadie was born.

Colelarious Vol. 1 Rainbow Toadie

Colelarious Vol. 1 Rainbow Toadie

The story behind it all...
One day in the not too distant past, Cole and I were walking to the store. As we passed the Cacko Forest - so named by Cole, but is really just a grouping of trees in our neighborhood - he told me about the toadie that lived in there and the beautiful sounds he made as he created rainbows.

Where he came up with this? I cannot say. Is there more where that came from? Most definitely!

Join me next week for volume 2 of Colelarious.
